Another octopus. This was on 8/27 as well. But in my US since 1945 class. You may not be able to tell in the photo but she has a bow in her hair, a butterfly bow. And she’s smiling. Obviously. She’s happy all blubbing around the hills of the ocean.

What I did on August 27, 2009. Instead of taking notes about the history of Cuba.
Many more to come. The semester has only just begun.

Because I really, firmly believe— and I don’t think I’m the only one— that your perception of something is limited only by your creative power. Anything you look at or listen to that you say, “Well, I’ve heard all there is to hear about it,” I doubt it. I bet, if you look harder, if you read again, you can find something new. I bet you that’s true week after week after week, if you keep searching— that you can apply a text, a song, a creed to your situation on a given Sunday, every week, for your entire life in a way that just broadens and envelops. And to me, that’s just kind of interesting. John Darnielle (via jawknee) (via fuckyeahthemountaingoats)

3 New Yorks.

fourthirds:

rainsterrr:

“There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born there, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size, its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter—the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something. Of these trembling cities the greatest is the last—the city of final destination, the city that is a goal. It is this third city that accounts for New York’s high strung disposition, its poetical deportment, its dedication to the arts, and its incomparable achievements. Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness, natives give it solidity and continuity, but the settlers give it passion.”
